Nevis
has been a vacation destination since angler's discovered the area's
lakes filled with cool, clear water...and lots of fish. Walleyes,
bass, northern, pike, panfish, and even a muskie can be found in
nearly 1000 lakes around Nevis. The lakes also are inviting to those
who enjoy boating and waterskiing, or those who just want to paddle a
canoe, take an evening ride on a pontoon, splash with kids on a
beach, or doze off sunbathing on a dock. |

Nevis
is considered the midpoint of the paved Heartland Trail that stretches 49
miles from Park Rapids to Walker and north to Cass Lake. It takes riders through the
woods, along lakes and ponds, and over two magnificent trestles. New
this summer is connection through Chippewa National Forest to the
Paul Bunyan Trail. For a unique experience visit the Emu Ranch and
the Bison Ranch, both just outside of town. |

Hikers and campers have more than 40,000 acres of the Paul Bunyan
State Forest to explore on foot or by vehicle. Hunters take over in
the fall for grouse, bear, and deer seasons. There are also trails
open
for ATVs. Nevis offers lodging of every type, various dining options
and shops for browsing. |

Life
may be cooler in the winter, but it rarely slows down.
Snowmobilers
have hundreds of miles of groomed trails, cross country skiers can
glide over three nearby groomed trail systems and Itasca State Park.
Ice fishermen can angle or spear the big ones from area lakes. Or just
relax by a fireplace and enjoy a good book while looking out at
winter over nature's snow-covered wonderland. |
